Dacia Maraini
She is a novelist, poet, essay writer and playwright, and her work is a symphony of genres and inspirations. She uses historiography (“The Long Life of Marianna Ucria”; Rizzoli, 1990, Campiello Prize), draws on her personal life (“Bagheria”; Rizzoli, 1993), explores the detective novel (“Rumours”; Rizzoli, 1994), writes short stories “Darkness”; Rizzoli, 1990, Strega Award) and theatrical works. Since 1963, with Zeit des Unbehagens from Rowohlt (“The Age of Malaise”, Einaudi), many of her works have been translated into German. As a columnist for Corriere della Sera, she investigates and describes the present with lucidity, often dealing with issues related to education and the condition of women. Among her latest titles are “Dear Pier Paolo” (Neri Pozza, 2022), “In the Name of Hypatia” (Solferino, 2023) and “My Life” (Rizzoli, 2023) where she relives her imprisonment in Japan.
